Holistic Massage

Holistic massage is an ancient method of healing that clears the lymphatic drainage system and releases toxins from the body. Illness and stress can affect our physical and emotional wellbeing and holistic massage balances the entire body as a whole.

The techniques for Holistic massage have been used for thousands of years in Egypt, China and India. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian healing system, uses the therapeutic benefits of massage combined with plant extracts, spices and aromatic oils.

At Lilac Therapies, oils are gently applied over the skin and the muscles massaged to stretch and release tension and knots. Areas that require more work may be manipulated for longer periods. Warm muscles stretch easier so it’s important for the treatment to be carried out in a warm room.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage has been practised in India for over a thousand years and it is part of their everyday family life. Indian head massage was brought to the west by Narendra Mehta in the 1970's and the therapy was extended to include the face, ears, neck, shoulders and upper arms.

Indian Head Massage works on areas affected by stress in our daily lives. This treatment can really help to calm the mind and is surprisingly deeply relaxing. Working with a firm and gentle movement it helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension, it also improves circulation in the head, enhances the senses and promotes clear thinking.

The massage usually begins with the mid back, working towards the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points help to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms will help release the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates to help relieve headaches and improves circulation. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair. Finally the treatment includes a gentle face massage with techniques that help circulation, skin tone, sinus and headache problems.

This therapy can be performed with or without oils with the client sitting fully clothed, so it is ideally suited to the workplace or situations where it may not be appropriate to give a full-body hour long massage.

An Indian Head Massage should leave you feeling relaxed, revitalised and re-energised. This is a perfect treatment for anyone with a “busy mind”, in a stressful job or works regularly at a computer.
